Almost every driver has at one time or another, had problems with their visors fogging. This happens mostly in cooler temperatures and often during night racing.
The driver closes the face shield, exhales hot moist air, which hits the cooler visor, condenses to water droplets and a fogged visor is the result.
To say that it is somewhat distracting to the driver is an understatement. If you can’t see, you can’t be consistent on the starting line not to mention drive the car down the track.
To compensate for this problem drivers have a variety of techniques, all of which have draw backs.
You can warm up your helmet in your tow vehicle by placing it on the front floor with the heater on full blast. The problems using this technique are…
- Your helmet can cool down rapidly after you take it away from the heat source.
- Your crew complains about the heater on full blast in the truck.
- You drive your car to the lanes and you don’t even have a tow vehicle.
Other racers simply put their visors down after both drivers are pre-staged and just before they stage. I think this can be a bit late to be “fussing” with this. What if the other driver holds you up and doesn’t stage? Do you hold your breath? Do you take a breath and risk fogging?
Or worse still, what if you accidentally roll in and put “both lights on” and you get caught with your visor up?
Still other drivers I’ve seen leave their visors up until they release the transbrake (delay box racing) and then put their visors down while the tree counts down. This by the way is not accepted in NHRA racing.
So why not try a different approach. Try some of our ANTI-FOG and put your visor down “before” you stage.
The warm helmet idea will work but it’ll work even better in conjunction with our “ANTI-FOG”.
So for $9.95 it’s worth a try. One bottle should last you a while but if you want a seasons worth and maybe a bottle or two for your friend to try, consider a “Six Pack”.
It cleans up with water and won’t hurt your visors.
Door Car Drivers: This anti-fog works great on windshields too! One bottle should do the whole thing. |
